What is the Friends of 440 Scholarship Fund, Inc.?

The Friends of 440 Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization comprised of attorneys, doctors, insurance adjusters, Judges of Compensation Claims, administrators, rehabilitation providers and others whose primary employment is connected with the Florida Workers' Compensation Act. These members donate their time and energy to promote social and educational charitable causes connected with the Workers' Compensation system in Florida.

What is the purpose of the Scholarship Fund?

The Primary function of this organization is the award of scholarships to students who are dependants or descendants of workers who were injured or killed in the course and scope of their employment and who are eligible to receive benefits under the Florida Workers' Compensation system. The scholarship is also open to dependants or descendants of people who who are primarily engaged in the administration of the Florida Workers' Compensation law.

These scholarships are intended to aid students who lack the economic ability to continue their education beyond high school or to further their college education.

The number of Scholarships awarded each year is directly related to the amount of fund available. Therefore, fund-raising is an important activity for this non-profit corporation. Various fund-raising projects are undertaken each year including Golf Tournaments, a Surf Contest, Theater Nights, Fashion Shows, Auctions and Dances. Corporate and individual donations are welcomed and are tax-deductible.

The name of the organization was adopted from the Florida Workers' Compensation Law, Chapter 440, Florida Statutes.
